Onder het motto 'wie niet waagt...', stuurde ik volgende mail naar Victor Ostrovsky, de auteur van dit boek:
Dear Mr. Ostrovsky,
first of all I would like to express my gratitude for the time and effort you took in order to share your experiences in the world of security services with us, readers. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'By way of deception' and 'The other side of deception'.
To come straight to the point of my letter: there is one chapter in particular that intrigues me more than any other. It is the first chapter of your second book. In this chapter you refer to some big - and as yet unsolved - Belgian cases, in particular the 'Nijvel gang'. You suggest the involvement of the Mossad in 'taking over' a Gladio group neglected by the Nato as well as the Westland New Post group - in agreement with the Belgium Security Services. The purpose of the actions suposedly were part of a destabilisation program (initiated by whom?).
You may know that the events surrounding the 'Nijvel Gang' and the violent crimes they commited left a deep scar on the collective soul of the Belgian population - in particular because nobody was ever convicted in any court. After all these years there is still a prosecuter occupied full time with the case, supported by a team of eight researchers. The term of limitation for the whole case is approaching very soon. Two parliamentary inquiries did not bring any progress to the investigation. The only breakthrough in the investigation, the find of some sacks of weapons and other evidence in a canal in 1986 - it appears just now - had been incited by 'manipulators'.
A synopsis of public information about 'the Nijvel gang' or the 'Brabant killers' in English can be found here » wikipedia.org
As a Belgium citizen I am very interested in this story and read some books about the subject. I am also an active member of a website/forum (bendevannijvel.com) designed to be an online and neutral documentation source, as well as a discussion forum about the details of the acts commited and the ongoing investigation. The reference in your book was noticed by some of the forum members.
We are - as you might have guessed - very curious if you could reveal some more information regarding this ghastly story. This in order to perhaps relieve the state of doubt with all victims and their family members, and people dear to them. They have been waiting for factual and emotional 'closure' on this case for thirty years now. We are also convinced that in a democratic nation such crimes should not stay under tabs for such an extent of time.
So evidently we are putting our hopes for further disclosure on the case on an 'inside' source like you : in other words we would be extremely gratefull if you could substantiate this matter a little further?
Respectfully yours,
